On Tuesday, June 13th our Teen Health Center will be offering free dental screening in the Wellness Center for our 6th and 7th grade students. This opportunity is optional for your student. A signed consent form must be received in order to participate.
Students participating will be called from their elective class for this service. A dental provider will look at students’ teeth and make a visual evaluation. They will apply a fluoride varnish which is a protective coating that is painted on teeth to help prevent new cavities and to help stop cavities that have already started. The dental provider will record their findings and each student will be ranked 1-4; one being good oral health with no follow-up needed, 2-4 meaning various signs of decay, 4 being the most obvious decay.
The information from these screenings will be used to follow up with any students who rank 2, 3 or 4 so they get connected to dental care (with the Wellness Center or with an outside provider). A dental screening does not take the place of a complete dental exam by your child’s dentist.
If you have questions please feel to contact Marissa Bruno at Madison’s Wellness Center at 206-933-7842. Consent forms are available in the main office and also went home with students.
