Madison Taking Additional 2-hour Early Release Days in 2016-17
    Posted on 09/27/2016
The staff of Madison is committed to serving the needs of all students. Over the past few decades more and more research has come out around the importance of teaching children holistically. At Madison we are dedicated to implementing a more comprehensive MTSS plan (Multi-Tiered Student Supports). Madison is over a year ahead of where this district is asking all schools to be by the end of the 2016-2017 school-year in developing an MTSS plan. To continue this important yet difficult work, we requested additional early release days to support staff with professional development and work time around our MTSS goals.

On these days we will be working with David Lewis and Jill Colasurdo form Seattle Public School’s office of Behavioral Health Services. They are assisting us in building a school culture around trauma informed instruction, focusing on a whole child approach to promote students’ academic success/social emotional well-being, developing a systemic proactive response—prevention and intervention when recognizing symptoms of anxiety. Research shows that these are important steps in fostering a positive school climate where students feel safe.

The following dates will be 2-hour early release days for Madison Middle School:
The district-wide dates are 9/28/16, 10/26/16, 11/16/16, 3/22/17, 5/10/17 (all are Wednesdays). The additional Madison dates are 10/13/16, 1/11/17, 2/8/17, 4/19/17 and 6/14/17 (all Wednesdays, except 10/13/16, which is Thursday).

Although there will not be after school activities on these dates, buses will be provided.

Thank you for your support in our work to make sure that all of our students build positive attitudes toward school and learning as we continue to build an inclusive and nurturing environment for all at Madison Middle School.
